VARCO Formal Grievance

File a complaint

  • We encourage participants or community members to first seek a resolution of any disputes with the recovery community organization’s staff. If a dispute or grievance cannot be resolved in that manner, participants or community members of that VARCO member have the right to file a formal grievance with VARCO.

Please reference the Formal Grievance Policy and the blank forms posted in the common area of the recovery community organization.

    1. IF YOUR DISPUTE IS WITH ANOTHER PARTICIPANT/COMMUNITY MEMBER: Make a written complaint to a staff member.
    2. IF YOUR DISPUTE IS WITH A STAFF MEMBER: Make a written complaint to another staff member of equal or higher authority.
    3. IF YOUR DISPUTE IS WITH A STAFF MEMBER AND YOU FEEL YOUR PRIOR COMPLAINT HAS BEEN IGNORED: You may file a formal grievance with VARCO.
    4. CONFIDENTIALITY: VARCO does not disclose the name or identity of a person filing a complaint to any third parties unless required to do so by law.

Send the formal grievance to:

The Virginia Alliance of Recovery Community Organizations
2604 North Parham Road
Henrico, VA

Or through this website using the contact form below:

Please fill in the required fields. Formal Grievances must be from a current participant or community member, signed by the person (adding your name to the form below will constitute an electron signature), and include an email address and phone number where the person may be contacted. Formal grievances may not be lodged by phone. However, if a resident wishes to contact VARCO’s field office by phone for information about the process, they may call (804) 410-4843. Complaints need to be specific enough to support fact-finding.

If this does not resolve the issue, the participant and/or community member has the right to contact the Office of Recovery at https://dbhds.virginia.gov/office-of-recovery-services
