Reducing the Stigma: BIPOC Mental Health Month & Beyond

 Overview:

The Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR) is partnering along with the NAACP Richmond Branch for our virtual panel discussion to continue to highlight the importance of BIPOC Mental Health Month. We hope you’ll join us for this virtual event on Monday, August 8th at 2:30PM-EST moderated by Anthony Grimes, Executive Director of VARR, featuring Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney; Randy Wilson, Host of the Randy Wilson Podcast & State Director of Business Development for the Chesterfield Site, Family Insight; Reverend Robert Winfree, former Mental Health Counselor, Richmond Behavioral Health Authority and NAACP Richmond Branch Member; and Cynthia Benbow, Executive Director of Behavioral Services at HCA Virginia’s StoneSprings Hospital Center.

During the event we will explore the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on mental health in Richmond’s Black community. Additionally, the panelists will discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health needs of the Black community and other underrepresented communities, including (but not limited to) reducing barriers to access mental health care services, such as insurance coverage discrimination, cultural stigmas, transportation and geography.
